Stephanie and Benoit are natural-born hosts and seasoned Innkeepers, who truly enjoy welcoming guests to their beautiful white picket fence home. They are adept at helping guests get the most out of their visits to Niagara On The Lake, the 'Prettiest Town' in Canada.
At the Finlay House, Stephanie and Benoit have created a really charming B&B with Scottish flair, where you are warmly welcomed to stay a wee while.
Stephanie prides herself on decorating the Finlay House in a homely, rustic yet modern style, where clean and clear and uncluttered are the key themes! Fru fru, fussy and frilly are not at all in evidence at the Finlay House, much to the delight of all our guests, who seek out our polished boutique style! Artisanal lovers will be pleased to know that all our furntiure in the guest house was Hand Made to order by the Mennonites from St Jacobs. You will love the attention to detail and solid workmanship on the furniture which is much admired.
Stephanie and Benoit met in Hong Kong, where Stephanie was born and raised! Benoit hails from France, a Parisian who grew up in the Cotes D'Azur. After a few years working in some of Hong Kongs hottest restaurants, Stephanie and Benoit moved to Edinburgh, Scotland. Whilst there Stephanie went to University and graduated with a Degree in Law with Distinction. Soon after she joined the Civil Service and her last posting was in the Justice Department. Benoit on the other hand honed his hospitatliy skills by working at the 4 Star Inter Continental Hotel located in the prestigious East End of George Street. In 1999 Benoit went in to business for himself and opened a French Cafe and Delicatessen, he named 'Made in France'. The 'deli' as it was affectionately known was considered the most authentic where 1/2 Baguette sandwiches, Croque Monsieurs and bowls of Cafe au Lait were consumed with abandon!
In 2001, still in Edinburgh, Stephanie and Benoit welcomed their son Louis in to the world! Louis is famous for his unique answer phone message! So if you happen to get the answer phone when we are out, you will hear Louis and his faint Scottish accent and his very quirky message. Most of our guests have a wee chuckle and then kindly leave Louis a message about reserving a room! It is priceless and now quite famous!
Stephanie and Benoit decided to immigrate to Canada to open a B&B. After a year and a half they found 8 Nelles Street, Niagara on the Lake, and Finlay House was born. They haven't looked back. Stephanie runs the front of house operation at Finlay House, she is on hand to greet you on arrival and offer tips on good places to eat and drink. She prepares a delicious 2 course brekfast every morning. Benoit is more a 'behind the scenes handy man' on account that he also works at the prestigious Hillebrand Winery. He is a wine connoisseur and very knowledgable on the vast array of wineries in the Niagara Region!
All that remains then is to ask you, "So, when are you coming?"
